Montepio Foundation
No one should go hungry at night, and certainly no parent should have to sleep on the floor to give his or her child the only bed in the house. Sadly, there are families all over San Diego, who must do that every night. Paying the electric or water bill, let alone groceries should never be an uncertainty.
As part of the MDP Advantage, the Montepio Foundation was created to increase community outreach and support for those in need. The Montepio Foundation specifically provides qualifying charity organizations with the financial means to get low-income families back on their feet – members of our community, who are suffering under the weight of extreme financial hardship. With the help of these charity partnerships, the Montepio Foundation can make sure families, like our own, have some of life’s bare necessities, such as food, clothing, medical attention, shelter and finally, a chance at a better life.
To qualify for contributions from the Montepio Foundation, charity partner organizations must be designated a “public charity” 501(c) 3 non-profit organization by the United States Internal Revenue Service. Generally, the purpose of the organization, event or program must be to provide goods or services for low-income persons in need, and the organization, event or program must benefit persons or communities in the South County of San Diego from Mission Valley down to the international border at San Ysidro.
Please note there is a limit of one grant awarded per year, per organization. At this time, no support will be extended to purely religious activities or programs that serve specific religious groups or denominations. However, if a proposal submitted by a church-based or similar organization falls clearly within program guidelines and is intended to serve a broad segment of the community as the program of a comparable non-religious organization, we will consider the request.
